Bronchoscopy

In a bronchoscopy, a bronchoscope is inserted into the trachea for endoscopy of the lungs. Bronchoscopies are used for diagnostic purposes, but are also used as therapeutic procedures.

If this is additionally combined with a sonographic examination, it is called endobronchial ultrasound. Tissue samples can be extracted using fine needle systems.
